Highlights
Purpose
Cool Boys Communicate, Inc. is a group of boys aged 12-18 putting in the work to be fluent readers, writers, and speakers. The group participates in engaging experiences that entice members to be impactful communicators and transformational leaders.
Mission
Vision
Creating experiences that cultivate skillful communicators and leaders.
Cool Boys Communicate members use the influence of literacy and self-awareness to exude leadership and integrity in the roles they serve both personally and professionally.

Toastmasters Youth Leadership Curriculum
CBC uses components of the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Curriculum to ground communication and leadership practices. Sessions enable participants to develop their written, verbal, and listening skills through the following:
Preparing and giving speeches
Evaluating their own & peers speaking ability
Participating in extemporaneous talks
Controlling their voice, vocabulary, gestures, & eye contact
Giving constructive feedback and more.

How the Curriculum Sessions Work
CBC curriculum sessions are structured for small group learning and presented by a coordinator who facilitates each session. Sessions generally follow a format similar to that of a Toastmasters club meeting, with an announced agenda that includes practice in parliamentary procedure, prepared and
impromptu speeches, and the selection of presiding officers.
Speeches and impromptu talks focus on participants finding their voice using the following communication mechanics:
Speech Organization
Eye contact
Vocal Variety
Research
Gestures
Speak to Persuade
Speak to Influence

Return on Investments for Participants
CBC participants learn, have fun, and are celebrated throughout the program through the following:
Social media exposure
Accomplishments shared with school officials, community leaders,
educators, and beyond
Social outings
Celebrity talks
NBA and NFL (and others) meet & greets
Sporting facility tours
College campus tours
Video game play
Trips, badges, mentoring, and more!

Return on Investment for Families and Society
CBC members are contributing, experienced, and skillful young men with strategies and experiences that prepare them for college, career, and beyond. The cultivated experiences in CBC are not likely to be a part of the public school curriculum and therefore, support changing the narrative of what young black boys know and can do.
Enhance planning, organizing, and time management skills
Serve as evaluators to practice listening and critical thinking
Become more self-confident and improve speaking skills
Provide feedback as a form of leadership
Track self-progress
Introduce new words to members and use them in speeches

Practice team-building skills
Note unnecessary words and sounds used by members
Learn business and entrepreneurial skills
Reinvest in the community

Commitment
While the Cool Boys Communicate, Inc. program provides tremendous opportunities to the families in the program, it also requires considerable investment. This is not a hands-off program. Being a member requires a
commitment from the entire family. Parents are required to donate a minimum of 20 hours annually and participate in fundraisers. Scholars are required to attend weekly sessions and participate in speeches, debates, and leadership opportunities.
